WorkSafeBC ~ WHMIS Training
October 4 @ 8:00 am - 12:00 pm
Course Content: WHMIS~ Why Attend?
Not all supervisors, managers, or joint safety committee members are aware of the legal issues that surround safety on the work site. This presentation is important for people who work with chemicals and who maintain their company’s WHMIS program.
Why Attend? You can meet your WSBC obligation to provide employees, and/or joint health and safety committee members, with annual training – and learn about identifying workplace hazards (part of the due diligence process).
WorkSafeBC’s objective is to reduce injury and occupational disease in BC through active enforcement of the Act and the Regulation and through assisting all people having workplace health and safety responsibilities to exercise due diligence.
This course summarizes key changes from the original WHMIS program, describes the three main elements of WHMIS (labels, safety data sheets, and education and training programs), and outlines the responsibilities of suppliers, employers, and workers for these elements. It also offers useful information about the kinds of hazards and chemical characteristics of products covered by WHMIS.
Participants will be able to:
- Relevant legislation (GHS changes)
- Classification of hazardous products (hazard groups, classes and categories)
- Communication medias (SDS, labels)
- Communication elements (signal words, hazard and precautionary statements, pictograms)
WorkSafeBC legislation requires that employers provide joint safety committee members access to workplace safety training – PrintForward is offering this 4 hours course to help members, and non-members, meet the annual training requirements.
