Joint Health and Safety Committee Training Seminar – Required by WorkSafeBC

New Legislation from WorkSafeBC for Health and Safety Committees

Companies are required to provide Health and Safety Committee members with training to identify and interpret occupational health and safety committee responsibilities and learn how to carry out those responsibilities in ways that promote workplace health and safety.  PrintForward Printing & Imaging Association is offering this required training for members (non-members can attend if space available.).  This training is for 8 hours by certified WorkSafeBC trainer, Tanya Steele.

Pricing:  $175 for members and $275 for non-members

Note:  This location is generously hosted by our member company, Spicers Canada, at their meeting room at 2500 Vauxhall Place, Richmond, BC.

This 8-hour course meets the requirement of Regulation 3.27 for joint committee mandatory training.

  1. Explain the purposes of the Act, Regulation, and OHS Guidelines
  2. Summarize the duties and functions of the joint committee
  3. Explain the role of the joint committee in accident investigations
  4. Explain the role of the joint committee with regular inspections
  5. Understand the work refusal process
  6. Summarize educational requirements for joint committee members (section 135 of the Act and section 3.27 of the Regulation)
  7. Conduct an individual needs assessment for the purposes of selecting training in accordance with section 135
  8. Explain the prohibition against discriminatory action (section 150 of the Act)
  9. Identify when an employer is required to consult with the joint committee
  10. Differentiate between the roles of the committee co-chairs and joint committee members
  11. Explain the purpose of a joint committee’s Terms of Reference (or Rules of Procedure)
  12. Apply the policies and procedures outlined in the joint committee’s Terms of Reference
  13. List the traits of an effective joint committee and explain the purpose of conducting an evaluation of the joint committee’s effectiveness

Upon completion of the training, companies will receive a letter signed by the instructor that provides the date of the training session and the names of the attendees for records management (we recommend that you keep this document on file for access if WorkSafe BC requests proof of attendance).

Instructor Bio:  Tanya Steele, CHSC, RCSO, CSS
Tanya Steele is a well-respected and sought after Speaker and Trainer in the safety profession.  She speaks at conferences across Canada, such as the CSSE National Conference, Manitoba NCSO Conference, Western Conference on Safety, WorkSafe BC Bridging the Gap Conference, Go2HR Conference and many more.

Tanya currently works with the BC Construction Safety Alliance as a Regional Safety Advisor and Instructor and with the Pacific Safety Center as an instructor.  She has participated on committees such as the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering; NAOSH Lower Mainland Chapter, Outreach Committee; VRCA Education Committee; ASTTBC; and the NCSO BC Work Group committee.

Tanya has 24 years of experience as an OFA and Safety Specialist and offers her students and clients real life scenarios and solutions.  Tanya is committed to implementing safety with versatile, cost effect and solution oriented safety services and she delivers instruction in energetic, relatable and practical ways.
